When to Use

  • For Prevention: Start 7 days before radiotherapy or chemotherapy to help reduce the incidence of mucositis
  • During Treatment: Continue throughout radiotherapy or chemotherapy for pain relief and symptom management
  • After Treatment: Continue for 7-14 days (or longer) after treatment ends for wound healing and recovery
  • For Dry Mouth: When symptoms are present to provide relief and maintain oral comfort

Before Treatment

  • Remove any foreign matter from the ulcerated area by rinsing or gently cleaning with gauze

How to Apply

  • Gently pour 5-10ml of Mucosamin® Mouthwash into the mouth
  • Distribute the product evenly throughout the oral cavity, concentrating on the damaged area
  • Keep in your mouth for at least one minute
  • Do not rinse after treatment
  • For the rear sections of the oral cavity, the product can be gargled
  • The product may be diluted with water according to the severity of symptoms

Frequency

  • Use three or four times a day (or as required)

What is Mucosamin used for?

Mucosamin is used for the prevention and treatment of oral mucositis and associated symptoms in patients undergoing cancer treatment (radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy) such as dry mouth conditions. Mucositis is a common side effect of cancer treatment that causes the lining of your mouth to become sore and inflamed.

Both Mucosamin Mouthwash and Mucosamin Spray are indicated for:

  • Oral mucositis induced by cancer treatment (chemotherapy, radiotherapy or both)
  • Dry mouth conditions (xerostomia)
  • Burning mouth syndrome
  • Oral lesions and inflammation
  • Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (mouth ulcers)
Who can use Mucosamin?

Mucosamin can be used by patients experiencing mucositis from cancer treatment, those with dry mouth conditions and burning mouth syndrome.

What does Mucosamin contain?

Mucosamin contains a patented formulation of sodium hyaluronate and four synthetic amino acids: glycine, L-proline, L-leucine, and L-lysine HCl. These amino acids assist in wound repair protecting healthy tissue (mucosa) from damage whilst supporting wound healing.

How often should I use Mucosamin?

Use three or four times (or more) a day according to the severity of the symptoms.

How should Mucosamin be used?

Mucosamin Mouthwash

  • Gently pour 5-10 ml into the mouth and distribute evenly throughout the oral cavity
  • Keep in the mouth for at least 1 minute. Can be gargled for rear sections
  • Use 3-4 times daily. Spit out excess, do not rinse afterwards
  • Do not drink, eat or rinse your mouth for at least one hour after application
  • May be diluted with water if required

  • Apply a uniform layer by repeatedly spraying targeted affected areas
  • Cover the entire affected area
  • Use 3-4 times daily according to the severity of symptoms

Important: Both Mouthwash and Spray can be used during treatment. Combine with a diet free of spicy or acidic foods.

When should I start using Mucosamin?

Mucosamin can be used throughout your treatment journey. It may be used pre-treatment to help protect the oral mucosa, during treatment for pain relief and symptom management, and post-treatment for healing and recovery.

For optimal prevention, treatment should ideally commence before the start of radiotherapy or chemotherapy.

For dry mouth conditions, Mucosamin can be used when symptoms are present to provide relief and maintain oral comfort.

Safety Profile: Mucosamin has been evaluated across nine clinical studies involving 679 patients with no adverse events reported.

The only contraindication is known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients. There are no reports of interactions with drugs or medicinal substances. There are no known secondary effects during pregnancy and breastfeeding, however use should be at healthcare professional's discretion.

How should Mucosamin be stored?

Mucosamin should be stored between 8°C and 30°C in a cool, dry place away from moisture and heat sources. Do not store in the refrigerator. Do not use if packaging has been opened or damaged, or after the expiry date. Keep out of reach of children.
